Each person who owns property and lives on that property must
declare homestead each year by April 15th or the 16th if the 15th falls on a Sunday.
For 2021, The State of Vermont has extended this date to May 17th.
If you do not file by this date, then you will receive a penalty. Even if you do not believe you owe property taxes, you must declare homestead in order to qualify for Property Tax Adjustment. Filing a Homestead Declaration is easy and can be done online at the Vermont Department of Taxes website
. Please be sure to file your homestead and or property tax adjustment claim even if you do not have to file Federal Income Taxes.
